About Me
New Zealand is my birthplace, but Frome, Somerset in the UK, is where I call home.
My work background both reflects who I am and has helped me become who I am.
In primary teaching I worked from the root of the word educate - to draw out - seeking to develop the whole child. This continued in a fuller way during my years in a community centre, encouraging people's many-faceted growth.
Another expression of my passion for growth and inner healing is my clutter clearing work, assisting people to cull the unnecessary and make more space for the deeply satisfying. As we sift, sort and organise all their physical "stuff", clients reflect that their lives become more easeful, expansive and relaxed. For some there is a real unlocking and freeing at an emotional and psychological level as old, buried losses and traumas come to light and can be grieved, honoured and released.
Alongside clutter clearing I work with death and dying. This might seem a strange mix, but both involve deep listening and empathy, and lead to inner-freedom and empowerment. Approaching death is the ultimate facing of loss; the greatest paring down to what really matters; and the final letting go.
When a death has occurred the loss is keenly felt by those left behind. One way to begin to heal the grief is to get involved in creating the best possible farewell, a really personal funeral. I seem to have a natural ability to 'hold' a ceremony in a dignified yet informal way such that people feel included and uplifted.
I love the interplay of spirituality, creativity and sustainability and find that they emerge as recurring themes in my life and work. I enjoy rich conversations about how best to live life, and use the 7 Words tool to help with clarity and balance. My three adult children are an ongoing delight.
