Decluttering

Sometimes life crowds in on us and clutter grows. A change of circumstances or a loss is often the trigger - bereavement, a change of job, a relationship break-up, illness, elderly parents needing care, a new baby. Or no particular change occurs; just stuff accumulates and gets out of order.

With freedom from clutter, and organisation, come a sense of calm, of being in control, of having the space to do and be as we choose.

In my 8 years of clutter clearing with a wide range of people and their varying situations I have had the great delight of seeing them - individuals, couples and families - find the lightness and sense of freedom that comes as the clutter goes.

My passion for easeful, simple living combines with my deep interest in end-of-life matters.

Both sides of dying, people are looking for someone to work alongside them to change their physical surroundings. Aging and elderly people are choosing to sift and sort their belongings so as not to leave a burden on the next generation. Or they may be aware that there are aspects of their life they would rather weren't uncovered by a grieving son or daughter.

Sometimes it's about downsizing from family home to apartment, or to go into sheltered accommodation or a home. How does one select the most precious and comforting items, and what becomes of the rest?

The other side of death also has its clutter challenges. The clothes and personal bits and pieces of a spouse, parent, child or dear friend who has passed on are not clutter until they become so. In other words, until the bereaved person is ready, such things bring comfort and security and a way of remaining close to the loved one who has died.

But the time comes when they are ready - but how to do it, with whom, and what emotions may flood to the surface?

I honour this process. With compassion and a still, quiet presence I gently guide people who are ready to let go and move on. Each one is unique and knows deep down what they need and how to go about it. I help them find their own way and support them in it.

Clearing the home of a parent, aunt or friend may be less emotional perhaps, but daunting none the less. Myriad decisions must be made and acted on. Here my organisational skills and support can turn an arduous task into a joyful exercise; a final gift.

Charges and area served

Whilst I am based in Morayshire, Scotland, and serve mostly my local area, I am open to considering assisting with de-cluttering elsewhere, especially in sensitive situations. My charge is £25 an hour plus travel costs.
